Iced mocha protein coffee

An iced mocha: coffee, milk and chocolate protein over plenty of ice. The protein is dissolved in the milk first, then the already cold coffee goes in. It works well with decaf too.

Before you start

  • Make the coffee in advance and let it cool: about 10 minutes on the side and 20 in the fridge. If you have leftover coffee from the day before kept in the fridge, use that.
  • Do not tip the protein straight into hot coffee: it clumps.

Step by step

  1. Step 1: Make and cool the coffee

Make 180 ml of coffee and let it cool: 10 minutes on the worktop and 20 in the fridge.

It’s right if… The cup or jug feels cold.

  2. Step 2: Dissolve the protein in the milk

In the glass, whisk the milk and protein with the frother for 15-20 seconds (or shake them in a jar with a lid).

It’s right if… Smooth, slightly frothy chocolate milk with no lumps.

If it goes wrong… If there are lumps, leave it for 1 minute and whisk again.

  3. Step 3: Add the coffee

Stirring all the time, pour in the cold coffee.

  4. Step 4: Add ice and serve

Fill the glass with ice and drink straight away.

How to tell it’s going well

  • Coffee: cold before mixing.
  • Protein milk: smooth, no lumps.
  • In the glass: an even latte colour.

If this happens…

Lumps of protein
Always dissolve the protein in cold milk first.
Too strong
More milk or more ice.
Too weak
A little more coffee, or a double espresso instead of filter coffee.

How to store it

  • Drink it as soon as it is made.
  • You can whisk the milk and protein the night before, keep it in the fridge and add the coffee in the morning.
