Creamy chocolate banana shake
A cold, thick and creamy chocolate and banana shake. The protein already contains cocoa, so you only need a little more if you like your chocolate rich. Ready in 5 minutes.

Before you start
- Put the milk in the fridge well ahead so it is really cold.
- Check in your blender’s instructions that it can crush ice.
Step by step
-
Step 1: Liquid goes in first
Pour the 200 ml of milk into the blender jug. That way the protein does not stick to the bottom.
-
Step 2: Add the rest
Add the protein, the banana in pieces and, if you like, the cocoa, instant coffee and salt. Put the ice on top.
-
Step 3: Blend
Start with 3-4 short pulses to break up the ice, then blend for 30-40 seconds on high.
It’s right if… You can no longer hear ice knocking against the jug and the shake is smooth and frothy.
If it goes wrong… If the blades spin without catching, stop, stir with a long spoon and blend again.
-
Step 4: Adjust the thickness
Taste it. For a thinner shake, add 30 ml of milk. For a thicker one, 2 more ice cubes.
It’s right if… It coats the spoon like a milkshake from an ice-cream parlour.
-
Step 5: Serve straight away
Pour it into a large glass and drink it right away, before it separates.

How to tell it’s going well
- Before serving: smooth, with no bits of ice.
- Thickness: it coats the spoon and drips off slowly.
- Flavour: clearly chocolate; if it tastes weak, the optional cocoa makes it richer.
If this happens…
- It is watery
- Use less milk (150 ml) or freeze the banana in chunks beforehand instead of using ice.
- There are lumps of protein
- Always put the milk in first and blend for 10 seconds longer.
- Not chocolatey enough
- Add the 5 g of cocoa and the pinch of salt rather than more protein.
How to store it
- Best drunk as soon as it is made: as the ice melts, it separates.
- If there is any left, keep it covered in the fridge and drink it the same day, after shaking.
